MUAC Hut Bookings and Info

The Massey University Alpine Club hut is located 14km from Ohakune and 3km below the Turoa Ski Field on Mount Ruapehu.
Our hut is a basic alpine tramping and mountaineering hut. We hold a privileged position above the hairpin and under 3-4 hours hiking distance from the summit. We are the only hut on this side of Mount Ruapehu.
The MUAC hut is bookable for club members. The club welcomes non-students and alumni as members, as well as collaborative membership with other national tramping, alpine and university clubs.
Please note we require guests to be competent at following instructions to start up and shut down the hut with care, we are fully off-grid.

- The hut sleeps a maximum of 24 guests on back-country style bunk beds

Pricing:
WHOLE HUT RATE
SUMMER (OCTOBER-MAY)
- $700 per night, whole hut
WINTER (JUNE-SEPTEMBER)
- $800 per night, whole hut
SINGLE BED RATE
- $50 per person per night during summer and during winter week nights (Monday-Thursday). Minimum of 4 beds booked. Please contact Hut Bookings at hutbookings@muac.org.nz.

Cancellation policy:
The Massey University Alpine Club Committee reserves the right to cancel your booking at any stage for any reasonable purpose; including the following:
- Your group name, or individuals associated with your group are recorded against the visitor blacklist (occurs when visitors neglect hut rules set out in the Hut Users Manual, sustain unreasonable, careless, or reckless damage to the hut, fail to return the key, or any other reasonable cause justified by members of the MUAC Executive Committee).
- The Volcanic Alert Level (VAL) or recent volcanic activity poses a significant risk to the hut and its occupants (as deemed by the MUAC Executive Committee).
- The MUAC Executive Committee opts to close the hut for any reason, importantly for maintenance purposes to ensure the hut remains compliant with regulations.
- Adverse weather which may place the structure and its occupants at significant levels of risk is forecast for a period during the booking duration.
- Any other reason the MUAC Executive Committee deems necessary to ensure the safety of the hut and its occupants.
