Basic Rock (8th-10th April) is one of the larger trips we run each year. The trip is designed for beginners, so this is a great opportunity for you to give outdoor rock climbing a go. We will be heading to Wharepapa South - a popular climbing area in the Waikato, departing Palmy on Friday evening, and returning on Sunday evening. The trip will cost $80-$90 (will confirm exact cost in the next few days), and that covers gear hire (helmets, harness, climbing shoes, ropes, etc.), travel, food (Saturday dinner and Sat/Sun breakfasts), and accomodation. We have experienced senior MUAC members who will provide instruction on the trip. If you are interested please contact Jess, the Social Secretary. She will be taking signups for this trip at next Monday's meeting (4th April).
If you are keen to come on this trip, we'd like you to have a go at the indoor bouldering wall at the Massey Rec Centre on a couple of nights if you haven't already (Tuesdays and Thursdays 7-10pm - the climbing wall officers will assist you and provide shoes and chalk).
We'll also be running a climbing night at the VertX climbing gym in town, on Wednesday night next week, so that you can learn correct belay technique before the trip. The trip is of course, weather-dependent. It should be an awesome weekend, and we hope that many of you can come!
